Roger Harvey studied at Oxford University and London University.After a spell as a school teacher he decided to develop his career as atrombone player.He spent 6 years in Manchester as a member of the Halle Orchestra beforemoving to London, in 1982, to join the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble asPrincipal Trombone. On Philip's retirement he acted as Director to thesuccessor group, London Brass.Since 1991 he has worked as a free-lance player with all the major symphonyand chamber orchestras in London as well as being active in the commercialrecording studios.In January 2000 he joined the BBC Symphony Orchestra as Co-PrincipalTrombone.As a teacher he spent 5 years as Professor of trombone at the Royal NorthernCollege of Music and 4 years as trombone tutor at the Junior GuildhallSchool of Music. He is now Professor of Trombone at Trinity College ofMusic, London and also teaches privately and coaches ensembles byinvitation.While a member of PJBE and LB he made many arrangements for concert andrecording use. He continues to write and arrange for a variety ofinstrumental formations. He runs his own brass music publishing companyBrassWorks.He has also worked as a conductor and musical director for concerts andcommercial recording.He was a Director of the orchestra of the Academy of St Martin in the Fieldsfor 5 years.He is a Trustee of the John Fletcher Trust Fund.
