Originally composed for two pianos, these magisterial variations became better known when Brahms arranged them for symphony orchestra. This fine transcription is based on the piano duet original but its scoring for symphonic brass and percussion gives it a depth and grandeur at least equal to the symphonic version. It received its premiere at the Barbican Hall, London performed by London Symphony Brass conducted by the arranger.
"Eric Crees is one of the greatest arrangers for brass music in the world. I do many concerts around the world and I always insist on doing Eric's arrangements wherever I go. There simply is no better transcriber for brass than Eric Crees."Jay Friedman, Principal Trombone, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Conductor

"Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Haydn seems like a natural for adaption to brasses and indeed the ever popular orchestral work's chorale, eight variations and finale were, one by one, as skillfully delivered as they were imaginatively and colorfully reconfigured.'- Chicago On The Aisle 16th December 2021
