Simon was born in Oxfordshire and began trumpet lessons aged 11. He soon became involved in many ensembles in Oxfordshire including the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra and Thames Vale Youth Orchestra. In addition to this Simon played with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Simon joined the Royal Artillery Band in 1989 and whilst a member of the band performed at many state occasions, television and radio broadcasts and on commercial recordings. During Simon's military studies he won the Cousins Memorial Medal for solo performance at the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall.
In 2000 Simon left the Royal Artillery Band and completed BMus(Hons) and MMus degrees at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied with Paul Cosh, Paul Beniston, Anne McAneney and Stephen Keavy. Simon has performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, English Chamber Orchestra, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, Köln Akademie as well as many other freelance orchestras. In addition to his trumpet studies Simon was tutored by Simon Wills in arranging and has arranged many works ranging from Bach to modern music in settings from trumpet quartet to symphonic brass ensemble.
Simon has also had the opportunity to perform the Concertos by Haydn, Hummel, Neruda and Malcolm Arnold, as well as Double Concertos by Vivaldi and Telemann. He is also committed to education and has worked with London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Sonic Arts, Britten Sinfonia in this area and is the trumpet tutor at the Hill House International School in Knightsbridge, London.
